Nutella mug cake

The Family Kitchen

Makes: 1 large mug

  • 4 tablespoons self rising flour
  • 4 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons Nutella
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil

Combine all ingredients in a large coffee mug. Whisk well with a fork until smooth. Microwave on high for 1 1/2 – 3 minutes (time depends on microwave wattage). Top with whipped cream and a little chocolate sauce if desired. Top with whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

*Chef’s note: This cake was  disappointing :(  But I did overcook it…. It should look almost underdone when you take it out. It still satisfied a late-night chocolate craving and was easy to throw together with ingredients I had on hand. I made two (which fed four people); the second had the same amount of peanut butter in place of Nutella and added a tablespoon of sugar. Neither one was that great, I have to say. Oh well! I had been dying to try it for a long time, and I still love the idea of a mug cake.
